LaVonne was born December 19, 1949, in Clinton, IA, to Eugene and Gladys (Noordt) Balk. She attended Garden Plain Elementary School and was a 1968 graduate of Erie High School. LaVonne married Phil D. Huizenga on June 3, 1978, at Second Reformed Church in Fulton. She worked in the reinsurance department of Fidelity Life Insurance Company from 1968 to 1974. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Micks Service, Clinton Medical Transport and Determann Industries from 1974 to 1979. In 1979, she was appointed and elected City Clerk/Collector for the City of Fulton and later retired from that position in 2001. LaVonne attended Second Reformed Church. She immensely enjoyed her family and friends and loved doing volunteer work. The joy of her life was helping raise her grandchildren in their earlier years but most of all adopting Crystal at a very small age and raising her after her mother’s death, which was a promise she and Phil had made to Becki.

Survivors include her husband, Phil; three grandchildren, AJ (Anastacia Hoenicke) Newell of Clinton, IA, Ashley Newell of Clinton, IA and Crystal (Brandon) Phillips (adopted granddaughter) of Fulton, IL; eleven great-grandchildren, Claire, Hudson, Ruby, Riley, Emerie and Asher, Cale, Arlo and Treyton, Carson and Chloe; two sisters, Kathy Suter of Fulton, IL and Debra (Greg) Nelson; one brother, Terry (Donna) Balk of Fulton, IL; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Becki Huizenga; two brothers-in-law, Jesse Suter and Terry Nelson.
