Obituary for Robert D. Dykema
ROBERT D. DYKEMA, 80, of 1412 4th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at his home. Bob was born August 25, 1932, in Whiteside County, IL, to Richard D. and Dorothy (Renkes) Dykema. He was educated in the Fulton, IL grade schools and was a 1950 graduate of Fulton High School. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He married Arlene R. DeWeerdt, on March 10, 1951, in Chicago, IL. He was first employed by the former Curtis Company and Clinton Corn Processing Company both in Clinton, IA. He then was employed as medical clinic manager in Davenport, IA. Later, he owned and operated D&D Oil Company in Fulton, IL, which included bulk fuel trucking and sales. Following retirement, he was a partner in D&R Development. Bob was an associate member of Evangelical Free Church in Clinton, IA. He was also a member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402 and the Advisory Board of Community State Bank in Fulton. He also served as member of the Riverbend School Board for several years. Bob was a former member of the Fulton Lions Club and Fulton Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed golfing and spending winters in Arizona. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; one daughter, Cathy (Victor) Baca of Henderson, NV; one son, Alan Dykema of Harrisonville, MO; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Justin) Ohman, Elizabeth Ann (Justin) Leach, Ryan Dykema, and Ashley Dykema; one great-granddaughter, Lillian Ohman; and one sister, Carol (Brook) Stephens of Sioux Center, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
