Obituary for Roy H. Velde
ROY H. VELDE, 83, of Nevada State Veterans Home, Boulder City, NV, formerly of Morrison, IL, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Veterans Home. Roy was born August 29, 1929, in Chicago, IL, to Roy M. and Bertha A. (Wego) Velde. He was a graduate of Lane Technical High School in Chicago and attended Northwestern Illinois University"s School of Business in Chicago. Roy was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married Marian Johnson on October 18, 1952, in Chicago, IL. Roy was the owner of Ross V. Bogott Company, a commercial plumbing contractor, where he was employed for 34 years as owner and semi-retired consultant. He was a licensed Illinois Plumber and served as chairman of the Illinois Plumbing Licensing Examining Board and the governor"s Plumbing Code Advisory Council. Roy has received numerous awards and honors for his continuing efforts in the plumbing trade. He was a member of the Illinois Association of Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling Contractors and the Illinois Mechanical and Specialty Contractors Association. Roy was named "Contractor of the Year" and received the Capital Development Board"s Fair Employment Practices (FEP) Advocacy Award and served as a judge for the CDB"s Madigan Awards. He was active for over 35 years with the local contractor association with union related activities, including Trust Pension, Health and Welfare, and the Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Roy was appointed to the Illinois "Task Force on State Building Requirements" and contributed to the writing of the Task Force report to the 89th General Assembly. He also contributed to the development of the Illinois Building Commission Act and served as the Commission"s first Vice-Chairman. Roy was a 40 year member and Past President of the Morrison Lions Club. He was also a member of the Morrison Dunlap Lodge #321 AF & AM, Tebala Temple " Rockford, IL, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Moline, Morrison American Legion Post #328 and various other organizations. Roy served on local school boards and was a member of the Morrison Economic Development Committee. Survivors include one daughter, Bev Todd and Ken Martin of Henderson, NV; one son, Ralph (Sally) Velde of Sterling, IL; grandchildren including Andrea Todd and Jeremy Todd; several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eileen Nelson of Janesville, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; two sisters, Ruth Dahl and Irene Velde in infancy.
