Obituary for Russell E. DeWeerdt
RUSSELL E. DEWEERDT, 87, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Harbor Crest Home, Fulton, IL. Russ was born August 20, 1926, in Fulton, IL, to John and Dena (Sikkema) DeWeerdt. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. Russ married Beverly J. Vogel on April 9, 1948, in Fulton, IL. He was first employed as a marketer for Sinclair Oil Company. Later, he was employed in the maintenance department by Medical Associates in Clinton, IA. Russ was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton and served as a deacon. He also served as a volunteer fireman with the Fulton Fire Department and as a board member of Unity Christian School in Fulton. Russ served as an alderman on the Fulton City Council for several years and also as a Boy Scout leader. Survivors include his wife, Beverly; one daughter, Cindy (Mike) Shults of Grand Junction, CO; one son, Robin (Jackie) DeWeerdt of Bruner, MO; three grandchildren, Holly (Todd) Wright, Amy (Jason) Theis, and Jamie (Bobby) Moore; four great-grandchildren, Brady and Gannon Wright; Brynley and Nick Theis; five sisters, Beverly (Harold) Bonneur, Arlene Dykema, Betty Merema, and Irma Swanson all of Fulton, IL and Judy Dykstra of Waupun, WI; five brothers, Robert (Carol) DeWeerdt of Georgetown, TX; Leon (Elsie) DeWeerdt, Larry DeWeerdt, and Gene (Diane) DeWeerdt all of Mesa, AZ; and James (Mary) DeWeerdt of FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eunice Norman and Lois DeWeerdt; four brothers, Arthur, Vernon, Marvin and Arnold DeWeerdt.
