Obituary for Steven Robert Harris
STEVEN ROBERT HARRIS, 72, of Erie, IL, died Friday, December 13, 2019, at his home.
His funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL, with Ken Renkes officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Erie Cemetery in Erie, IL. A memorial has been established by the family.
Steven was born July 2, 1947, in Geneseo, IL, to William Richard and Belvadean (Ballard) Harris. He was educated in the Portland Township grade schools in rural Whiteside County and was a graduate of Erie High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Communications Technician Seaman during the Vietnam War. Steven married Deborah L. Tichler on October 21, 1975, in Dixon, IL. He worked for Northwestern Steel and Wire Company until retiring. Steven was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening, and took pride in tending to his yard. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was their number one fan at all their sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Deb; three daughters, Leslie (Kyle) Lackey of Prophetstown; Rosita (William) Schumacher of Aldie, VA; and Jamie (Jake) Vahle of Prophetstown; two sons, Aaron (Amy) Harris of Franklin Grove, IL and Ryan Harris of Erie, IL; thirteen grandchildren, Jasmin, Desiree, Morgan, and Laura; Isabella and Liam; Kristophur, Jacob, Kenzie, and Max; Cameron, Jordan, and Sydney; two great-grandchildren, Kohen and Fox; two sisters, Brenda (Jim) Kerley of St. Charles, IL and Sue Buthe of Loves Park, IL; three brothers, William “Bill”(Barb) Harris of Washington; Richard “Butch” (Tena) Harris of Mt. Carroll, IL; and Gary “Gib” Harris of Milledgeville, IL; his beloved dog, Misty; and dear friend, Terry Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
